This year, we’ve seen the importance of garden-based education firsthand. Because of your support, we delivered hands-on garden and food literacy programs weekly at Sprucecourt PS, Rose Avenue PS, Eastdale CI, Frankland PS, and seven more schools across the city in single workshops. We brought 12 classes to Allan Gardens Children’s Conservatory for early spring planting workshops.
At Eastdale, students planted sweet potato slips in June and in October they harvested more than 180 kgs of sweet potatoes. We continued our School Garden Land Back program, supported Indigenous-informed learning, and worked closely with Winchester PS to redesign their entire school garden. We also relocated more than seventy school-grown trees to a farm nursery to keep growing strong.
All of this was possible because of your support!
Starting Friday, November 21st at noon until Giving Tuesday (December 2nd) 11:59 PM, your donation will be matched up to $10,000. Which means your support will help twice as many children learn the importance of healthy food and environmental stewardship.
“We are long-time friends of Green Thumbs Growing Kids. We have seen it work for years to connect children with food, education and community in Downtown East. As it enters its next quarter century, Green Thumbs is scaling out and up (literally!) its impact across Toronto. We hope that others will join us to help grow Green Thumbs, so that it reaches more children, youth, schools and communities across this city!”

We aim to expand our school garden-to-kitchen programming to 10 schools in 2026 and continue offering Indigenous-informed volunteer training. We will also welcome even more community members to the Green Roof Garden in Regent Park. As we enter our twenty-seventh season, we are also proud to play a role in Canada’s new National School Food Program while continuing to show what garden-based learning can look like in the heart of the city!
